About the Practice

I am Sophie Guiton RS Hom, a qualified Homeopath, trained at the Centre for Homeopathic Education (CHE) in London. My practice is based in Barnes London SW13; appointments are available on Mondays 9 a.m. – 12 noon and Wednesdays 2 -5 p.m. at my clinic located at Barnes Methodist church  near Barnes pond . Zoom appointments are also available.

I am passionate about holistic healthcare - exploring and raising awareness about different tools we can use  to support our health ; I discovered  homeopathy when I was struggling with chronic illness - it supported me through a difficult time and inspired me to train, to 'carry the torch' for others to benefit from it also.

We, as living beings, are self -healing  organisms, but the strain of modern life / trauma can affect this ability, block the energy available to us to regenerate. Recognising signs of  a system under strain and adopting supportive therapies can help bring us back into balance, allowing more flow and sense of  well-being; encourage resolution of disorders and help maintain a healthy state.

Why  choose Homeopathy?

‘Homeopathy treats each person as a unique individual with the aim of stimulating their own healing ability.’ (School of Health, ca.2019)

Homeopathy is based on the principle of ‘like cures like’ - a substance which can cause symptoms of disease when used in large doses in a healthy person can, in small amounts, be used to treat a sick person suffering with similar symptoms. E.g. drinking too much coffee can cause agitation and sleeplessness, so according to this principle , a minute amount of coffee in the form of homeopathic preparation could be used to treat a person suffering from sleeplessness and agitation.

A homeopath will prescribe the most appropriate remedy based on the patient’s specific symptoms and overall level of health. (Society of Homeopaths ca.2019 )

The homeopathic view is that all diseases stem from one cause – a disruption in the functioning of the vital principle or vital response – the automatic, dynamic life force that governs and maintains all the systems in the body (Hahnemann 2009). When this is disrupted it produces symptoms to overcome the disturbance and restore balance in the body and it does so in the safest way i.e. causing least damage to the whole. Once balance is restored, symptoms disappear as these are only the outward manifestation of an internal disorder.

Put another way , the body knows what it is doing and symptoms are the body’s way of taking action to overcome illness. The similar or homeopathic medicine can assist this process , when it has been unable to do this unaided. It acts as a stimulus to the natural vital response providing the information it needs to complete its healing process (School of Health ca.2019)

Diseases are cured from within – ‘pushed outwards’ along established pathways of past and present symptoms. The dose of medicine required is just enough to trigger/ initiate the healing process, then the body takes over and completes the work. Cure has been found to be more effective when the medicines are administered in a highly diluted form that has also been energised, achieved by a special preparation process (Hahnemann 2009). This process also has the advantage of rendering the homeopathic remedies completely safe to use- any toxicity existing in the material substance is eliminated.

Treatment is individualised; mental and emotional traits and states are considered as are subjective symptoms, to gain an understanding of the individual, to discover where the vital response is stuck and then through the selection of the most similar homeopathic remedy, to assist the patient to move forwards into a healthier state with healthier expression in their lives.

Homeopathic remedies have been tested on healthy people and their effects on the body known. The most similar remedy sought is that which produces symptoms – mental , emotional as well as physical that most closely matches the symptom picture of the patient. According to the principle of ‘like cures like’ this is the curative remedy.
